STI SyntaxError User Manual

FACULTY PORTAL · STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

How to use the SyntaxError portal

Everything a teacher or the Super Admin needs: signing in, reading the class data, opening a student's record, giving level codes and managing accounts.

Before you start

What you need to sign in for the first time.

An account from the Super AdminThere is no public sign-up. The Super Admin creates your account and assigns your sections.
Your school emailIt ends in @caloocan.sti.edu.ph. You also need access to its inbox for the sign-in PIN.
Your default passwordGiven to you privately by the Super Admin. You can change it on your first sign-in.

Password first, then a 6-digit PIN sent to your email.

  1. Open the website and select Sign In at the top right.
  2. Enter your school email and password, then select Login.
  3. Check your email for a 6-digit PIN. Enter it and select Verify and Login. The PIN works for 15 minutes.
  4. Tick Remember me on your own device to stay signed in. Leave it unticked on shared computers.
Sample view · signing in with password and PIN

Select Login only once; the button shows a spinner while it works. No PIN email? Check Junk or Spam, then use Resend PIN in the PIN box. It unlocks after 60 seconds, and only one PIN is sent per minute.

Your first sign-in

Two one-time screens appear before the dashboard.

  1. Terms and Privacy Notice. Scroll to the end of the notice; the checkbox unlocks there. Tick it and select I Agree and Continue. Choosing Decline signs you out.
  2. Change your password? Select Yes to set a new password (enter the default one first, then the new one twice, at least 8 characters), or No to keep the default for now.

Changing the default password is recommended, because the Super Admin knows it.

Class Overview (Dashboard)

The summary of your sections' game records. It updates live while students play.

  1. Use the Section menu at the top right to see all your sections or just one.
  2. Read the four numbers: Students (and how many started playing), Levels completed per student, Time recorded and Wrong submissions.
  3. Level completion: each bar is a game level; its height is how many students finished it.
  4. Select Export student summary (CSV) for a spreadsheet of every student in the selected section.

The green LIVE badge means you never need to refresh. New attempts appear by themselves.

Time and errors per topic

Which topics take longest and where students make the most mistakes.

Sample view · time and errors per topic
  • Blue bars: timeAverage minutes per student on each topic, all attempts added up. The number at the end of each bar is the exact value.
  • Orange bars: wrong submissionsAverage wrong answers per student on each topic.
  • Most students with errorsThe topic where the most students made at least one mistake.
  • Further down the pageThe coding tasks with the most wrong submissions, the most common error messages, recent activity, and students who have not started yet.

Every number is counted directly from the game's records. The portal does not guess "difficulty" or label students.

Students page

Find any student and see their numbers in one table.

  1. Choose a section from the menu below the page title.
  2. The four boxes show the section's Students, how many are Online (as reported by the game), Started playing and Not started.
  3. Type in Search to find a name or student number. Use Show to list only students who started, have not started, or are online.
  4. Use Sort by to order students by levels completed, wrong submissions, time recorded or most recent activity.
  5. Select Export CSV to download exactly the students currently listed.

A student's record

Select Details on any row. The record answers: how far did they get, and did their retries go better?

Sample view · opening a student record
  1. Left side: name, section, and the 19 level boxes. A yellow box is a completed level.
  2. Time spent and errors per topic: this student's totals per topic.
  3. Attempt progress: one line per level the student retried. A line going down means less time or fewer wrong submissions on later tries.
  4. Attempt history: each attempt is one row. Tap it to see every task and the exact error messages, with when they happened.

How to read an attempt row

#13m 21s
  • Bar length = time on that try (longest try = longest bar)
  • One dot = one wrong submission
  • The level was completed on that try
  • ↘ 1m 44s faster ↗ 0 → 2 wrong change from the first to the latest try

Managing students

Add students to your sections and keep their details correct.

Import a class listSelect Download Excel Template, fill it in, then Choose File, pick the section and select Import Class List.
Add one studentSelect Add Student and fill in the student number, name, student email and birthday. The student is added to the section selected on the page.
EditSelect the pencil on a row to fix a name, student number or birthday.
Reset a game passwordSelect Reset Password, choose the section and student, then type the new password (at least 4 characters).
ArchiveSelect the box icon to move a student to the Archive. You can restore them for 7 days.

A student's default game password is their birthday in YYYYMMDD format, for example 20080115.

Give level access codes

Students unlock the next level with a code from you.

  1. Open Levels in the menu.
  2. Choose the level to unlock and the section, then select Generate.
  3. Share the 6-digit code with the class. It works for 5 minutes, only for that section, and only for students who finished the previous level.
  4. Use Copy to copy it, or Revoke to stop it early. When the 5 minutes end, the code is erased and can no longer be used. Generate a new one if students still need it.
Sample view · generating a level code

The Level completion circles on the same page show how many students in the section finished each level, so you know when to open the next one.

Archive and sign out

Restore a student, then end your session safely.

Sample view · archive and sign out
  1. Open Archive to see archived students and how many days are left for each.
  2. Tick students and select Restore Selected to bring them back to their section.
  3. When you are done, select LogOut. Always sign out on shared computers.
  4. Use the moon/sun button at the top of the menu to switch between light and dark mode.

Questions and fixes

Quick answers to common problems.

I see no students or no sections.

Your account has no section assigned yet. Ask the Super Admin to assign your section(s) in Approve Users, Step 2. They appear immediately; you do not need to sign out.

The PIN email did not arrive.

Check Junk or Spam first. In the PIN box, Resend PIN unlocks after 60 seconds; a new PIN replaces the old one. Each PIN works for 15 minutes.

A student plays but nothing changes.

The portal updates live. Make sure the student is in the right section and connected to the internet. Records appear after a task or level is saved by the game.

A student shows "Online" but is not playing.

"Online" is the game's own flag. It can stay on if the app was closed suddenly. Check the Last activity date instead.

Student numbers lose their leading zero in Excel.

The exported CSV keeps them. If you copy numbers by hand into Excel, format the column as Text first.

I forgot my password.

Select Forgot Password? on the sign-in page, or ask the Super Admin to send you a password reset email.

Super Admin sign-in

Uses only your authorized email and a PIN. There is no password.

  1. Open the Super Admin sign-in page.
  2. Enter your authorized Super Admin email and select Verify Identity.
  3. Enter the PIN sent to that email and select Finalize Access. You land on Approve Users.

Only emails listed as authorized admins receive a PIN. Keep the Super Admin email private.

Step 1: Create a teacher account

Only the Super Admin can create teacher accounts.

  1. On Approve Users, fill in Complete name, Official school email (must end in @caloocan.sti.edu.ph) and a Default password of at least 8 characters.
  2. Select Create Teacher, check the name and email in the confirmation, then select Yes, Create Teacher.
  3. When "Teacher account created" appears, select Go to Step 2 to assign sections.
  4. Give the email and default password to the teacher privately.

Creating a teacher never signs you out. On first sign-in, the teacher must accept the Terms and may change the default password.

Step 2: Assign sections

Teachers only see the students of the sections you assign.

  1. In the Assign sections list, find the teacher (name and email are shown).
  2. Open the section box on that row and tick one or more sections.
  3. Select Save on the same row. The teacher sees the change right away.

The list updates live. Unsaved ticks are kept and marked "unsaved changes" until you press Save.

Manage sections

Use the Manage Sections menu at the top of Approve Users.

Add SectionType a unique section name, for example ICT1201.
Edit SectionRename a section. Teachers and student records follow the new name.
RemoveTick sections to remove them. Removed sections go to the section archive.
ArchiveSee removed sections and restore them.

Manage teacher accounts

Use the Manage Users menu at the top of Approve Users.

Reset Teacher PasswordPick the teacher, then Send Reset Email. Firebase emails them a secure link to choose a new password.
Remove UsersTick teachers in the list, then remove them. They are archived for 7 days.
View ArchiveRestore archived teachers before their 7 days run out.

Removing a teacher hides their access in the portal, but their sign-in account still exists in Firebase Authentication. Disable it in the Firebase console if the person must not sign in again.

School years

Use the Manage School Years menu at the top of Approve Users. The badge beside the page title shows the active school year.

Create School YearEnter the year it starts, for example 2026 for S.Y. 2026–2027. It starts as Not started.
View School YearsSee every year and its status (Active, Completed, Archived). Start, end or archive a year, or open its data.
Move Students to New YearPut returning students into their new section, or promote them from Grade 11 to Grade 12.
  1. End the year: in View School Years, select End school year and read the confirmation. The year becomes Completed. Nothing is deleted: accounts, game progress, time spent and wrong attempts are all kept.
  2. Create and start the next year: select Start. You can create the same section names again (they start empty) and keep each teacher on the same names.
  3. Assign teachers in Step 2. Assignments are saved for each school year.
  4. Move returning students with Move Students to New Year: choose last year's section, this year's section and the grade level, tick the students, and confirm. Each student keeps the same account and password and starts the new year with a fresh record. Their old record stays with the old year.
  5. Teachers add new students on their Students page as usual.

Teachers only see the active year's sections. Manage Sections and Step 2 also work on the active year only, and nothing can be added while no year is active. To review a past year, choose it under School year on the Students page.

Student Records page

Every section's game records and who teaches each section, in three tabs.

  1. Choose a Section at the top, or keep All sections. The Assigned teacher box shows who teaches it. The choice applies to all three tabs.
  2. Overview: the four numbers, level completion, and time and errors per topic. Open Show the per-topic table or More details for tasks, error messages, recent activity and students not started.
  3. Sections & teachers: one row per section with its teacher(s), students started, average levels completed and the topic with the most wrong submissions. Select a section name to open its Overview.
  4. Students: search any student and select Details for their full record, including attempt progress and history.
  5. Select Export student summary (CSV) to download the selected section.

Like the teacher pages, this page is live. The page remembers the last tab you used.

Questions and fixes

Quick answers for the Super Admin.

"This email already exists" when creating a teacher.

The email is already a teacher, archived, or pending. Look for it in Assign sections or the user archive and restore it instead of creating a new account.

A teacher says they cannot see their students.

Check Step 2: the teacher needs at least one section ticked and saved. Also make sure the students were imported into that same section.

A teacher forgot their password.

Use Manage Users → Reset Teacher Password to email them a secure reset link.

The Super Admin PIN does not arrive.

Check Spam, wait a minute and request a new PIN. Only authorized admin emails receive one.
